Mr. Kenjiro Shinozuka was the first Japanese driver to take an overall victory on the Paris-Dakar Rally, and also the first to win a round of the WRC, thus bringing rallying to the attention of a much wider audience. Outside sport, he has contributed to the advancement of social life and culture by improving education in Africa, and so forth. In recognition of these great achievements, the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame is honored to induct Mr. Kenjiro Shinozuka into the Hall of Fame.
Shinozuka made his name in domestic rallying whilst still at university.
Shinozuka was first overall in the 1987 Himalayan Rally.
Shinozuka became the first Japanese driver to win a WRC event after claiming victory in the 1991 Ivory Coast Rally.
Shinozuka was also the first Japanese driver to win the Paris-Dakar Rally outright.
Shinozuka took part in the 2009 solar car race in Australia, and ultimately won.
Taking the Guinness World Record certificate for the fastest speed clocked by a solar car in 2014.
Returning to Africa after a gap of 12 years (his last appearance there had been in 2007), Shinozuka took part in an eco-race around the country.
Shinozuka donated the funds to build a school in Dakar.
